This Autumn, immerse yourself in history with the exhibition Image and power. The age of the Antonines at the Saint-Raymond Museum in Toulouse.After the short transitional reign of the Emperor Nerva, from 96 to 98, the second century is a golden age, that of the Antonin Emperors.Trajan, Hadrian and Antoninus Pius ruled over an empire at peace, and the economy flourished. However, Marcus Aurelius, Lucius Verus and Commodus, whose reign marked the end of the dynasty, had to face serious problems on the frontiers.The exhibition allows us to compare the portraits of emperors and empresses at this peak. It addresses the representational codes used by the emperor and his family, the symbols associated with power and their dissemination to the masses the elite.
